  2. Does not shed snow and ice as well as standing seam

Architectural Shingles

The thickest and most durable type of asphalt shingle, available in a variety of colors.
Pros
  1. Classic, attractive appearance
  2. 35+ year warranty
  3. Technically relatively straight forward installation
Cons
  1. Heavy – requires stripping roof if more than 1 layer of shingles is present
  2. Does not shed snow and ice well.

3-Tab Shingles

A thinner, single layer shingle with gaps between “tabs”. Available in a variety of colors.
Pros
  1. Classic appearance
  2. 25-30 year warranty
Cons
  1. Less durable than architectural shingles
  2. Requires stripping roof if more than 1 layer present
  3. Can be technically difficult with maintaining alignment of tabs
